Country located in south Caucasus with 4 million inhabitants, Georgia is a market that is not so visited by the French wine sector exporters (contrary to the Italian ones).

Georgia has a very old wine tradition (8,000 years old), tradition that is central in the local culture. There are 550 endemic grape varieties and a specific production technique (in Kvevri) that are specific to Georgia. Total vineyard surface of the country is reaching 100,000 ha for a total of 200 significant wineries. Among all the wineries, 20 groups are having a production of 1 million bottles and more.

This sector is investing: a dozen of projects is ongoing. These projects are usually associating production facilities and touristic spaces (hotel, restaurant, degustation room).

Main exporter of the region with 107 million bottles send abroad in 2021 (90 million in 2020) mainly to its natural market (Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Poland, Baltics) and China. Contrary to what was expected, exports of the sector in 2022 have not been impacted by the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Experto Consulting visited SITEVI 2021 show in Montpellier (France) in order to meet our clients, our partners and discover the latest trends in vine-wine sector.

Vine-wine sector offers opportunities in Georgia and Ukraine for French and European  equipement manufacturers. Many projects are planned there.

Experto Consulting has been supporting Interco (International Economic Cooperation Agency of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region) and Georgian National Wine Agency during the visit of a French delegation of wine sector companies in Georgia. This program funded by the European Union consisted in technical visits and BtoB meetings with Georgian wineries. 

After the signature of a Master Franchise agreement with GEPHA (Georgian Healthcare Group), Afflelou Paris has opened a first store in City Mall Saburtalo and will introduce the Tchin Tchin package for Georgian customers. Another store is already planned to open soon.

Experto Consulting has organized the identification and the prospection to select an exclusive distributor for Paul Masquin for the Georgian market. Our prospection has been exhaustive and succesfull. In addition to the partner search, we have conducted a price survey to support our negociation with the potential distributors. Paul Masquin is a French producer of cleaning articles mostly sold in retailer chains.

Experto Consulting visited SPACE 2021 livestock show in Rennes (France) from 14th to 16th of September in order to meet customers, prospects and partners from the breeding equipment, genetics, animal feed, agricultural machinery and veterinary product sectors.

Ukraine, Georgia and Azerbaijan are offering many opportunities in agriculture and livestock sectors for exporters.

Experto Consulting Ukraine team was present at the Kyiv Fashion Show. With nearly 200 exhibitors, this is the most important event for Fashion and Textile sector in Ukraine.

Ukraine offers opportunities for French or European brands wishing to export or set up. In particular, the retail market is very booming. Several shopping center openings are planned over the 2021-2023 period.

Ukraine has a large textile industry and offers possibilities for subcontracting  and selling fabrics, lace and other consumables for this sector.

According to UTG (Ukrainian Trade Guild), nine more shopping centers including Respublika Park mall, BaltcSky and Olympic Park are expected to open in 2021-2022 in Kyiv with a total rental area of 267,000 sqm. As of April 1, Ukraine has already 268 malls mainly located in Kyiv.

Due to lockdowns and a continuous increase in supply, vacancy rates for retail space increased from 6.5% to 11% in Kyiv in 2020 during the pandemic. As a result, the monthly rental prices charged in the main malls of Kyiv were $55-$77 per sqm in 2020 compared to $85-$115 per sqm the previous year.

Despite the context, shopping malls are very popular and frequented in Ukraine. For theirs developers, the return on investment remains very profitable.

Dmytro Kushnir, Managing Partner of Experto Consulting Ukraine, has shared his vision of the export potential of Ukrainian companies in the EU markets. He stressed out that Ukrainian business has made a huge progress in its readiness to export in the EU, but that there was still a lot of work to be done.

Following this Forum, Experto Consulting will be launching a few new export projects from Ukraine to France.
